SHAHEED BHAGAT SINGH COLLEGE LIBRARY: KNOWLEDGE AND LEARNING RESOURCE CENTRE

I. ABOUT THE LIBRARY

The ShaheedBhagat Singh College Library is one of the most important constituent of SBSC which started functioning right from the inception of the college. Over a period of last 4 years it has transformed itself into a fully Automated Knowledge and Learning Resource Centre byleveraging extensively with all modern information and communication technologies and CCTV based Security System. It is spread across 3 floors with total sitting capacity of around 200 seats, with reading halls on first and second floors of the library along with the collection. In 2010 library undertook major renovation work of first floor of the library to give a face lift to its physical infrastructure and facilities. This highly renovated first floor of the library offers a congenial environment for study and research. A special emphasis has also been placed on promotion of electronic resources by developing e-resource centres for faculty members as well as for students.

Rules and Regulations

  1. Entry to Library is permitted on production of bar-coded library card issued by the library.
  2. Bags are not allowed inside Library.
  3. Use of Mobile Phones is not allowed inside the Library.
  4. Library cards are not transferable.
  5. Library is a No Smoking Area.
  6. Complete silence is to be observed.
  7. Library issues 4 Books to Under Graduate and 5 Books to Post Graduate students for a period of 10 days.
  8. A late fine of Rs. 1/- per day is charged for books returned after due date.

II. RESOURCES AND SERVICES

Resources

The library has a total collection of about 70,000 thousand books on subjects ranging from Commerce, Economics, Mathematics, History, Geography, Political Science, and Languages, etc. to facilitate teachers and students in their teaching and learning process. It also has a sizable number of government publications, reports etc. along with a large number of reference books. It subscribes to around 100 Print periodicals (including 55 journals and 45 magazines). List of these print periodicals’ may be downloaded through the linkPERIODICALS. Besides, being the member of Delhi University Library System (DULS), it provides access to over 132 electronic resources from a large number of publishers and aggregators through its e-resource centres.

Services

The library facilities are being used for following purposes:

1. Library Membership: Single Bar-coded library card to teachers and students in place of multiple library cards.

2.Circulation Services (i.e. Issue/Return): Computerized bar-coded issue/return which enables library in quick and error fee issue/return as well as helps in undertaking smooth and speedy stock taking.

3. OPAC: For providing uninterrupted access to library’s computerized catalogue.

4. Check Out Details are also available on a click of mouse i.e. any user can get an instant report of books issued against his/her card.

5.Periodicals and Reference Section: Library has an exclusive Periodicals and Reference section for providing access to about 100 Print Journals and a sizeable number of rare, ancient and not to be issued text.

III. ONLINE LIBRARY SERVICES

WebOPAC

Web OPAC is online catalogue of entire collection of books where any required book could be accessed either by Author, Title, Subject, Publisher, Year of Publication or any other Keyword. This facility enables users to get bibliographic details of books on a specific subject and their status (i.e. On Shelf or Issued Out) even outside college premises i.e. from all University of Delhi Colleges and Departments.
